Overview:

Scientific Hatcheries is a high technology recycle fish hatchery producing both fresh water and marine products. The hatchery is located in a typical industrial building and uses very little replacement water, which means that this type of hatchery can be located in any location that is convenient. As a business we have several different activities. The main income and effort is producing live aquatic products with feeder guppies being the major item and zebra danio's being the second largest product. We presently produce and sell about 20,000,000 fish per year. Most of the live product goes to either the ornamental fish markets or the research markets.

Filtration systems and capacity: Process Flow

• 7 major water treatment systems at 750 l/min each;
  • Sump followed by prop washed bead filters with automated backwash
  • Followed by a fine media fluidized bed biofilter -- 90+% removal of ammonia, nitrite, BOD per pass
  • Followed by a packed column for O2 addition and CO2 stripping
  • Slip stream pure O2 system
  • Dial a pH type control system with stable operation from pH 5.5 to 7.8 -- lime, soda and/or acid feeds
  • Ti plate and frame heat exchangers on each system with independent controls -- setup for chilled water with 40 tons of refrigeration capacity
  • Designed for extreamly high reliability with decade long proved track record
    • Hot standby pumps on all major pumping systems
    • Redundant and interlocked pH control system for fail safe operation
    • Dual in series valves for all automated discharges.
  • Denitrification systems for 4 systems.
  • Designed for all system salinities.
  • Full flow UV on one system.
  • Designed for 15 kg/day of dry salmonid feed capacity per day per system with up to 3 kg/m3 day into individual tanks
• Several minor systems for quarantine, and experimental use.
• Aquaneering Zebra Fish Facility. Test bed for zebra fish equipment.
• Four rotifer production systems with various designs including highly instrumented C/N ratio water treatment designs and very high loop strength, two stage FBB designs.
